Tag Art Swap

Just another quick share today, this months Funky Flair Studio Art Swap.

This is this months Moodboard

And these are my takes on the challenge.  I had a few ideas and I wanted to try them all out so there are a few extras.

These are them close up.

And here is a close up of the tag I decided to swap.

Denim Revolution – Kraft+

As soon as I saw this challenge for Kraft+ I knew I had to play along.  It seems there are a few people out there that had the same idea though and used photos from last years Scrap and Chat Retreat.  I can’t wait for this years.  Anyways, here is my take on the Denim Revolution.

The photo is a little bit cheeky – An Angry Cock beer.  So I decided to play on this and use the top of a tiny pair of denim shorts with the zip coming down.  For my background, I used some printed Kraft paper from a typo bag.  The fact that it has all old ads printed on it and there is one at the top about disguises made it perfect for this page.

Here are a few close ups.

Together | Stuck?! Sketches October Challenge

I’ve had a good month this month with being ahead in design team commitments and having time when the kids are behaving to get a lot of scrapbooking done.  I was aiming to post a blog post every day but I am going to miss 2 days due to being away for a wedding and not being able to get another 2 layouts under my belt.

This layout I have had on my to do list since the beginning of the month and I only just managed to squeeze it in. This challenge is for Stuck?! Sketches.  It’s my first time playing along.  You can check them out herehere.

This is the challenge sketch:

This is my take with a few alterations…

I simplified the sketch a bit and only used three photos because I wanted to use larger square photos but other than that I kept everything pretty simple and true to the sketch. I am really happy with the natural palette that I used and it is a perfect fit for these photos.  My background it a bit more complex than it looks here but I covered it up too much.  (Didn’t plan that too well!)  I love all the textures and fibres.

Here is some close ups:

There will be a process video but as with all my posts over the last week, I have been concentrating on making layouts rather than spending time on the computer so they will come next week.  We have a bit of a drive to the wedding so I will work on some editing on the way there and back.  Do keep an eye on the POPLEOPOD YouTube channel

Anna’s Craft Cupboard Mini Challenge – Halloween

Well, I can tell you it is definitely the only time I have ever scrapped so many halloween-y photos.  Yes, I have another one today.  This is the last lot, I don’t have any left that I can think of.  This layout is for the Anna’s Craft Cupboard mini Challenge.

So, this photo is one of me and only me.  That is very rare.  It was taken before we had kids – that is why.  My husband was away in China for work and I wasn’t due to fly over and meet up with him for another week. My mum and dad always attend a childhood friends annual Halloween party and I was invited so I didn’t have to sit at home alone. It was very last minute so I threw together an outfit that consisted of a red corset and my wedding dress skirt and teased my hair BIG.  (I will never, ever, ever do that again!!)

This is the only photo I have of the event – a selfie I sent to my husband.  This was back before I had an Iphone.  It would be a lot different these days.

Anyways, that’s the back story behind the photo.

Here is my layout:

This layout is a lot of layers.  There is sprays and stencils, stamping, paint, paper layers and chipboard.  I am in love with my Viva Las VegaStamps.  This layout features a few from my latest haul.    The paint blood drips are Fire Engine Flutterby Paint drips that I allowed to dry naturally.  Totally blood like.  I am running low on Charms Creations to I had to ink a purple one to make it more suitable.  I definitely need to stock up.

Here are a few close ups:

There will be a process video – it is currently still under construction so make sure you subscribe to POPLEOPOD on YouTube so you don’t miss out.

Tag and Art Journal Page | Viva Las VegaStamps! Moodboard

I am in love with Viva Las VegaStamps at the moment and decided to play along with this months moodboard.  I remember looking at this stamp in the store when I was putting in my last order and thinking “Wow, that is a bit evil” and then moved on.  Now I see it on the moodboard it doesn’t look any different to me.  Here is the moodboard:

It is not a stamp that I will be adding to my collection any time soon.  So, where to from here.  I took inspiration from the colour, the list idea and the stars.  I started off with an art journal page to test my ideas and then I made a matching tag.

Here is my Art Journal Page:

I love this cat woman stamp but she is a real pain to fussy cut.

Then here is my tag:

img_3532 I decided to keep it real with my styling.  This is how I see my finished products so I thought I’d share it this way for a change.

Here is a close up:

I think I like the tag more than the journal page.  The Zebra Charms Creations Star just sets it off perfectly.

Scrapbooking Top 50 | Week 4

I am just popping in to share my layouts created for the Scrapbooking Top 50 Block Challenge for Week 4.

This week it’s Kitchen week.  Both the kitchen inspiration boards are very different and not your typical kitchen so there is a lot to be inspired by.

Room 1 :

I originally thought I would only have chance to play along with one room and this was it.  I love those background tiles and the wood so that is what I focused on and this is what I came up with…

I chose to work with Kraft as my base to reflect the wood element from the moodboard and I kept all my wood veneers raw also. For my leave element I used some material leaves and also some hand stamped ones.  I stamped them both on plain white paper and book paper to give some details before colouring them with watercolours and Colour Blast Shimmer Dust in Lush and Paris.

To the background I added heaps of texture behind the hoop.  I used a real doily as a stencil to spread on some texture paste.  I then coloured the texture paste with the same colours I used for the leaves. Behind all that, I clear gessoed a brick stencil and when it was dry I inked over that too.  This makes the bricks stand out.  Over the top of all this I added some script stamp and a brick stamp from Viva Las VegaStamps.

For the dip-dyed elememt, I included a dip dyed tag from D-lish Scraps that I trimmed down to be a similar size to the leaves. I also coloured a Charms Creation heart in a similar way and a Flutterby Designs DIY Flair.  These are pretty cool.  I need to use them more.

This wood hoop was a custom order from Corbett Creations.  I had a few made (not for this purpose) but it worked so well.  I wrapped it in leaves and tapestry twine for more interest.  The wood veneer title is a Corbett Creations veneer too.  This is my One Little Word this year and I have a few of them.  (That reminds me I am behind in that project and I need to get it finished.)

Oh, and I almost forgot, the hanging element is the suede tassels.

I am really happy with the way this one turned out.  I guess you can tell by the way I wanted to tell you about nearly every element on the page.  Here are a few close ups.

There is a process video too.  You can watch it here.

The second room this week:

I was a bit disappointed that it was about Triangles again.  The first challenge had triangles.  I guess they didn’t have to be used on that challenge but I did.  So, I used the same stamps from week one that I made and clear embossed them then coloured them with a wash of water colour.  To change it up a bit I also added triangles of coloured paper scraps too.

Here is my layout.

It’s a fairly simple layout for me but to be honest, I have had these photos printed for a long time waiting for the right layout and finally, here it is.

The criteria is pretty easy to see, Triangles, Mixed alphas and small photos.

Here are a few close ups:

There is a process video for this one too.  You can watch it here.

Alice and the gift of Adventure | Tags

This month I took part in the Funky Flair Art Swap.  It’s simple, just create a tag using the moodboard as inspiration.  Simple. Then post it by the set date.

This is this months Moodboard

I of course used the colour as inspiration and the ideas of travel, adventure and Alice in Wonderland.

When thinking about how to start this tag I knew I didn’t want to Geli print again and have it look too similar to the feather and paint ones I recently finished.  As I sat at my desk the answer came to me. I had a pile of baby wipes I have used to clean up various projects and there were quite a few blue ones from my recent Geli print session. This was perfect and it added texture and interest to the tag without much effort.  I just machine stitched it into place as they were.  Crumpled and bent.  It looks awesome.  Well, I think it does.

As always, I created two tags slightly different so that I could choose the best one.

Here are both the tags I created.

The stamps are from Viva Las VegaStamps and they are awesome.  I just stamped the words with brown Stayzon Ink and the girl in black.  I then coloured her with Water colour pencils.  The fact that the ink is permanent means that it doesn’t run with you activate the pencils with water.

There are a lot of layers. Wet wipe, doily, atlas page, book page, cardboard and of course a bit of stamping.  There are only slight differences one is the girl is throwing a plane and the other the girl is reaching for the stars.  Both represent adventure.

Here are a few more close ups:

And here is the other one…

The tag I decided to swap was the one with the plane.  The plane is from Rainbow Splendour in case you are looking for some.

There is a process video you can watch it here.  It may seem in sections I am stalling but I tried to voice over as I was creating but it didn’t pick it up clearly so I had to scrap that idea.
