A Reply to an Open Letter Penned by a Fellow Crafting YouTuber

Dear Tori

Your blog post “Dear Fellow YouTubers”, couldn’t have come for a better time for me.  I was all but ready to give up posting videos and then my faith was restored. By you!

Late last year I set up my YouTube channel to start sharing my craft. My thoughts were, I love creating and am lucky enough to very rarely be uninspired so I thought I would share my works with fellow crafters.  The very first few videos I posted were time consuming.  Very time consuming.  I had my tech savvy brother try to show me how to make videos using a very technical program that saw me crashing my computer and almost giving up completely. My husband came to the rescue with a new computer and a simpler editing program and I was off.

I set myself a 2016 goal to publish one video a week this year and got to work posting. Just recently, I took the time to look at my stats.  This was probably the worst thing I could have done. There are three down turned thumbs.  THREE DISLIKES (Do note: There are plenty of thumbs up but these THREE thumbs down did something to me.)  They made me think what don’t they like?  Why did they hit the down thumb button?  Why did they take the time to hit dislike?  Why didn’t they just move on? Why bother making any more? Was it personal?

Then came your blog post across the Scrapaholic Anonymus wall and just like that Miss Bissell, your open letter restored my faith.  There are people like me who watch the videos and don’t hit like or dislike. The THREE thumbs downs are a minority and shouldn’t be the thing I focus on.   There are people out there who appreciate the time and effort involved in creating a YouTube masterpiece.  I say “Masterpiece”as each and every edited video on YouTube takes time and probably just as much time that it took Da Vinici to create the “Mona Lisa”. Plus, I have 70 subscribers so there are at least 70 people that appreciate the effort.  Thank you for pointing that out.

I right then, that moment, realised my worth. THANK YOU for taking the time to write this post and for sharing it.  You now have a loyal follower in me. I will continue with my goal of a weekly video and will see where it goes from there.
