Sensory play for toddlers – Water Bags

This was another activity I thought would have been a big hit but it only lasted a few minutes. Both toddlers had a go but the temptation to put it in their mouth proved too much and they pierced the bag after I turned my back to seal a second bag.

It’s another activity that is reall quick and easy to do. All you need is a ziplock bag (I used the larger double seal ones), baby oil, food colouring and a splash of water.

All you need to do is put some baby oil in the bag (I used about half a bottle), add a few drops of colour and a splash of water then seal up you bag. It is important that you add the ingredients in this order. This will give you the lava effect. If you add the water first it will all mix together and just look like coloured water. You can tape up the opening for extra security.

Keep an eye on the kids. It’s tempting and they will try and bite the bag. Oil is a pain to clean up off the floor. But just a tip if you do need to clean it up…sprinkle salt over the mess. Once it’s absorbed just sweep it up and wipe down the floor with soapy water.
